Agreement with Reach plc
Major deal is UK first for logistics firm Menzies
Menzies Distribution has secured a major deal with Reach plc to streamline the supply chain for publishers and retailers.
Edinburgh-based logistics business Menzies Distribution has secured a major primary distribution deal to collect all daily and regional weekly newspapers printed by the UK’s largest news publisher, Reach plc, and deliver them to all wholesale distribution locations across the country.
The agreement, which will see Menzies Distribution deliver both Reach-owned titles and those printed on behalf of third parties, is the first of its kind in the UK.
Reach plc, formerly Trinity Mirror, owns the Daily Record, Daily Mirror, Sunday People, and regional titles including the Manchester Evening News, Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Mail and Bristol Post.
Greg Michael, managing director of Menzies Distribution, said: “Our strategic focus is on working in real partnership with our Newstrade customers to develop innovative solutions that enhance and protect a sustainable route to market for their product.
“This significant deal does just that, streamlining the supply chain for publishers and retailers.”
On an average day, Menzies will be responsible for carrying approximately 380 tonnes of newspapers, to 60 wholesale distribution centres, covering around 7,000 miles.
