Union says jobs being offshored

RBS cuts 250 staff as bank shrinks

RBS hqRoyal Bank of Scotland is cutting 250 staff as part of its strategy of reducing the size of the bank.

However, the move has angered trade union Unite which has accused the company of transferring jobs overseas.

The bank said a net 92 full-time staff would be affected, while 154 contractor roles will be lost later this year. Most of the posts are believed to be technology-related and based in London.

RBS said it was reducing the size of its back-office support as it moved towards becoming “a simpler, smaller UK-focused bank”.

The union Unite claimed that as many as 334 jobs would be lost, with many being switched to India.
