New pie provides meaty deal with Asda

We Hae MeatAyrshire butcher We Hae Meat has introduced changes to the traditional Scotch pie that has led to a big order from Asda.

It has created a single portion pie and a new range of fillings – including barbequed pulled pork, Balmoral chicken and chicken curry.

Launched exclusively into Asda stores this week, the innovative single portion pie range can be eaten as a hot snack, a quick lunch or as part of a main meal.

We hae meat – run by husband and wife team Carlyn and Alex Paton – employs more than 50 staff and uses beef sourced directly from the family farm near Girvan.

Carlyn said: “As butchers who are relatively new to the industry, we are proud to look at product development with fresh eyes and pick what we think will give the very best result, whether that’s a recipe inspired by tradition or current trends.”

Brian O’Shea, regional buying manager for Asda Scotland, said: “The Scotch pie is a huge part of our national identity but is at risk of getting stuck in the past if it remains bridled by convention.

“We are delighted to be exclusively stocking this revolutionary new take on the traditional Scotch pie.”
