Scottish Beer Awards
Deadline nears for brewers to make their mark
With just two weeks to go until entry deadline, there is still time to enter this year’s Scottish Beer Awards.
It is free to enter the awards and the competition is built around the assessment of a written submission backed up with images, testimonials and credentials.
Please note that in order to be eligible to submit product into a taste category, at least one business category must also be entered.
This year sees the launch of a new format for written entries, with the introduction of a streamlined entry form, split into specific sections for completion. All entry forms can be found alongside their corresponding category on the Scottish Beer Awards Website.
Top tips to help your entry stand out:
Criteria: Check that your entry ticks all the boxes in terms of answering the criteria outlined in each category you are entering. Include as much relevant information as you can for each section of the entry form, backed up with examples and evidence.
Clarity: Keep your writing simple and concise. Tell your story and make sure you supply information to back this up. By using a strong opening paragraph this will help grab the judges attention.
Images & Graphics: Make sure you include relevant appendices with images that best showcase your product and achievements.
Testimonials: Back up your entry with named client, supplier or staff testimonials, and don’t forget to include any relevant industry credentials or other accolades.
Share your success: The more you can demonstrate how you overcame challenges to produce a great result the better. Show how you achieved success by working collaboratively.
Increase your chances: Enter as many categories as you can to spread the message across the judging panel and the competition.
Take time: Thoroughly check your submission and supporting information to ensure it covers the criteria and guidelines as best it can. Make sure to proof-read your statements. Grammatical errors and spelling mistakes detract from the quality of the entry.

The deadline is Friday 27 April and finalists will be announced in June, following the judging panel’s deliberation.
The winners will be announced at the annual celebration and awards ceremony which takes place on Thursday 27 September at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.
