Agency gets national remit
Bingo! Havas wins PR account for Mecca
The remit includes national and regional PR support for the Mecca brand, its 90-strong chain of clubs across the country (including 13 in Scotland) and the online and mobile channels.
The appointment follows a successful six month project which the agency completed for Mecca earlier this year, supporting the brand’s nationwide Star Search talent competition, the final of which was headlined by X Factor and reality TV star Stacey Solomon (above with winner Leon Bratt).
Havas PR UK’s board director Nigel Hughes is heading up an eight strong team on the account. The Edinburgh office will take the lead role but it will also draw on resources from the agency’s Manchester and London offices.
He said: “Mecca is one of the country’s best loved brands with millions of people registered with its clubs and online platforms.
“The business is making a significant investment in PR support as part of wider campaign to attract new members with popular games, fun and entertainment in club and online. It’s a really exciting contract for Havas to win.”
The agency team is reporting into head of PR for Mecca, Lesly Clifford.
“Havas has a great understanding of the Mecca brand and delivered tremendous results during the Star Search project.
“We saw press coverage for Mecca clubs and our online channels increase significantly during that period and we’re delighted that we will now be working together on a more permanent basis.”
Havas PR UK clients include Asda, Pets at Home, Greggs, DFS, Maplin and Debenhams.
