Hires assist in firm's growth

HBJ Gateley profits up on new business wins

Malcolm McPhersonScottish law firm HBJ Gateley says new business gains helped lift profits 19.9% to £8.5 million in the year to last April.

Turnover at the practice, which opened an Aberdeen office in August, grew by 9.5% to £17.7m

Malcolm McPherson, senior partner (pictured), said growth had been driven by new business wins, strong partner hires and a focus on building relationships in the firm’s key markets.

He said: “We’ve experienced strong growth in a legal market which still faces significant challenges, and that’s largely down to the fact that our teams work very hard to build productive, long-term relationships with clients.

“We seek out the best people in the market, at all levels, and create the kind of environment where they are able to succeed. This remains a very competitive market and we have to be absolutely committed to excellent client service, which is best achieved by finding extremely talented lawyers.”
