Hotel to double in size

Premier Inn builds on Lomondgate growth

Premier Inn LomondgatePremier Inn is to expand its hotel at Lomondgate in a move that helps confirm the area’s regeneration following the closure of the J&B bottling plant.

The hotel, on the A82 at Dumbarton, will almost double in size after being granted planning permission to add 54 bedrooms.

It is one of the best performing Premier Inns in the region and is regularly full. The expanded hotel should be fully open during 2017.

Mike Edward, Director of Walker Group (Scotland), which spearheaded the Lomondgate development in partnership with Strathleven Regeneration CIC, said: “This is great news for Lomondgate Services which continues to go from strength to strength.

“There is a great line-up of roadside services including the Premier Inn, Brewer’s Fayre, Scotland’s first drive-thru Costa, Euro Garages’ petrol filling station and Jaconelli’s Fish diner.

“Whitbread’s decision to expand is testament to the strength of Lomondgate Services’ location at a key gateway to Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park and our agents, Cushman & Wakefield, are now marketing the remaining site for a visitor/tourism facility.”

Located off the A82 Lomondgate is a £140m mixed use development which was launched in 2007 to replace lost jobs and regenerate the site of the former J&B bottling plant.

The development has far exceeded its original goals, attracting new companies – including Aggreko and the BBC – and more than £80 million of investment to the area, with more people employed at Lomondgate than were employed in the bottling facility.

The final brick has also just been laid completing 344 homes which have been developed in phases by Walker Group, Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey.   Plans are under way for a further 58 properties.
