Funding supports job growth

Food and drink firms expand with £4.6m grants

Fine foodFood and drink companies will benefit from more than £4.6 million in grant support to enable them to take their businesses to the next stage of growth.

The latest round of Food Processing, Manufacturing and Co-Operation grants will support 15 projects develop new products and extend existing lines, or build new facilities – safeguarding 820 jobs and creating 90.

Speaking ahead of AgriScot 2017,  Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing said: “Our food and drink industry is world-renowned for the quality of our wonderful natural larder, and is a key contributor to Scotland’s economy.”

This round of funding will see Dumfries and Galloway based meat processing company, Brown Brothers Manufacturing extend their premises and purchase  equipment to make the firm more competitive, safeguarding 567 full-time posts and creating 50 jobs.

Brown Brothers Managing Director Alan Hill said the funding will enable the company to construct an energy efficient extension to its meat processing facility and install state of the art production equipment.

A malt whisky distillery and visitor centre proposed for Inverclyde has moved a step closer with the award of almost £1 million.

The Ardgowan Distillery, planned for the Ardgowan Estate near Inverkip, 30 miles west of Glasgow, has secured £982,000, providing vital capital towards construction costs.


Food Processing, Manufacturing and Co-Operation grants scheme (FPMC) is part of the Scottish Rural Development Programme 2020 and is jointly funded by the Scottish Government and the European Union.
