Lidl serves up £1m deals with food firms

Lidl contributedLidl has extended its range of Scottish food businesses after signing deals worth £1 million with two suppliers.

Scottish Gourmet and William Sword will provide products for the supermarket chain’s new McKinlay’s range of ready meals.

The deals are worth more than £750,000 to Biggar-based Scottish Gourmet and about £250,000 to William Sword of Cumbernauld which runs The Scottish Soup Company.

Their products will be sold in all of Lidl’s 92 stores in Scotland, adding to its expanding Scottish supplier base in the last six months.

Lidl said its buying team will continue to grow relationships with existing suppliers and cultivate new ones to further develop its range of Scottish-sourced lines.

Paul McQuade, head of buying for Lidl in Scotland, said: “Working with the best suppliers in the country is a priority for us.”
