SSE loses 50k customers as rivals bite into market

SSEEnergy supplier SSE has lost a further 50,000 customers, confirming the encroachment of smaller rivals into the market.

In an update, the Perth-based utility said the number of gas and electricity households it now feeds fell from 8.21 million to 8.16m in the three months to the end of June.

The company is holding its AGM today and will provide an update on the possible sale of up to one third of its stake in the regional gas distributor SGN, as announced at the 2015/16 results.

It is targeting an increase in the full-year dividend for 2016/17 of at least RPI inflation, with annual increases thereafter of at least RPI inflation also being targeted.
