New series commission

Model Kidd among celebs in STV cycling show

STV ProductionsModel Jodie Kidd and retired cricketer Darren Gough are among eight celebrities signed up for a new reality television show being made by STV Productions for Channel 5.

They will take part in a four-part series Tour De Celeb which involves preparing for the toughest physical and mental challenge on TV and in the amateur cycling world, L’Etape du Tour in France.

A brutal 146km of endurance cycling through the French Alps, from Megeve to Morzine, L’Etape is described as the ultimate racing cycling challenge and the third largest participatory event in world sport.

Also taking part in the series are rugby player Austin Healey and Olympian Amy Williams. They will be joined by reality entertainers Louie Spence, Lucy Mecklenburgh and Hugo Taylor.

Tour De Celeb is funded by Skoda UK. The series is executive produced by Dan Korn, produced by Stephen Lovelock, and commissioned by Ninder Billing, Commissioning Editor – Factual, for Channel 5.

Last month STV Productions was commissioned by Sky to make a second series of the successful Prison: First & Last 24 Hours which will air later this year.

L’Etape, which passes through the French Alps from Megève to Morzine, involves 15,000 amateur riders taking on the same route as a real stage of the Tour de France. The event has been held each year since 1993.

STV creative director Dan Korn said: “I’m positive that viewers will be captivated by the emotional and physical journey that our celebrities will take as they train and ultimately tackle L’Etape du Tour in France.”
