Hoey succeeds Gordon at helm of IoD Glasgow
David Hoey, a partner and accredited employment law specialist with bto solicitors, has been appointed chairman of the Institute of Directors for Glasgow and the west of Scotland. He succeeds Laura Gordon, who has been chairman for four years, and under whose stewardship the IoD in the west has grown by more than 20%.
Mr Hoey said: “Glasgow and the west of Scotland has a very well established and eclectic business sector, with well-known companies such as Amazon and Rolls-Royce active within the region, alongside significant financial services, shipbuilding, defence, leisure and hospitality markets.
“I am very pleased to take the lead to help facilitate growth and membership value for Glasgow and west of Scotland’s business community.
“The region’s recently signed City Deal totalling a £1.13 billion heavy investment in infrastructure, skills and innovation provides great opportunities for local businesses, and public sector investment unlocked by job creation and increased economic activity is the opportunity of a lifetime. It’s time for Glasgow and the west of Scotland to be great.
“The Government’s recent announcement on its plans to achieve equality in business is an important development for larger businesses. The IoD is committed to promoting equality and diversity within business and will be working with businesses and leaders to achieve this.”
Mr Hoey’s main focus will be on innovation and business success working with central and local government, and members, to ensure that business leaders are equipped to meet the challenges presented by continuous growth and innovation.
He is committed to continuing the steady increase in members and in particular to continue to increase the number of female business leaders joining the organisation.
David Watt, executive director of the IoD in Scotland, said: “Firstly, I wish to thank Laura for her phenomenal effort over the past few years – a period which has really put IoD Glasgow on the map as the premier organisation for business leaders in Glasgow and the West of Scotland.
“We welcome David as he comes on board to continue the good work, growing the network, connecting with business leaders, championing best practice in the boardroom and helping directors with the demands of running a modern, successful business.”
