Scotland’s Russell Knox maintained his bid for two successive European Tour victories after finishing just two shots behind overnight leader Jens Dantorp on the third day of play at the Scottish Open.

Sweden’s Dantorp held a slim lead going into today’s final day after he birdied the last three holes to shoot a two-under 68.

He finished 13 under to leave him one shot clear of six players as the leader board changed a number of times in windier conditions.

Ryan Fox and Scott Hend briefly topped the table and ended the day with seven-under 63s. Matthew Fitzpatrick, Marcel Siem, Alexander Bjork and Rickie Fowler are also in the chasing pack on 12 under.

US Masters runner-up Fowler struck an eye-watering 458-yard drive on the 471-yard 10th hole as he put himself in contention to repeat his 2015 victory at Gullane.

Knox is looking to follow up his Irish Open victory last week and birdied five of his last 11 holes to find himself tied for eighth place.

“I’m loving the way I’m swinging and the putts are going in,” Knox said. “I’m just playing with a smile on my face.”

Another Scot, Stephen Gallacher, shot a round of 65 to stay in touch with the leading pack.

Robert Rock — the overnight leader by two shots on 13 under — plunged down the field with a round of 76 which included a triple-bogey 7 on the eleventh.

Twenty-six players were within four shots of the lead.
