Stoute heads trainers at Edinburgh Cup

Alex NicolMusselburgh today hosts one of the biggest days on Scottish racing’s calendar with the Edinburgh Cup, sponsored by Edinburgh Gin, as the feature event.

More than 7,000 racegoers are expected at the East Lothian course where £145,000 in prize money is up for grabs.

Among the fancied runners is Sir Michael Stoute’s three-year-old Yangtze. The Newmarket trainer’s horses rarely make the trip this far north, and the fact that he is Stoute’s only runner at the meeting makes him a strong tip in the Edinburgh Gin Edinburgh Cup (3.25).

Middleham based Scottish trainer Mark Johnston has won the cup three times and he has three entries in today’s race.

Juste Pour Nous and Tartan Blue line up beside Regal Monarch which is ridden by stable jockey Joe Fanning in the saddle. Fanning hopes to complete a hat-trick of wins following successes at Ripon and Chepstow

Fellow Middleham trainer Karl Burke’s Tahoo can maintain his stable’s good start to the season by following up on her debut at Carlisle in the ebftallions.com Edinburgh Castle Stakes (2.50). Paul Mulrennan’s mount Poet’s Society was a good winner at Newcastle last time.
