Boost for city retail sector

Adidas launches shop-in-shop at Greaves

GreavesSportswear retailer Greaves has opened Scotland’s first House of adidas – the only one in the UK outwith Harrods.

The £1 million development adds 2,691 sq ft  of floorspace to the company’s flagship Gordon Street store, taking it to almost 13,000 sq ft and confirming its position as the largest independent sports retailer in the country.

Sandy Greaves, managing director of the 90-year-old family firm, hailed adidas’ investment in Glasgow as a major boost for the city.

“It’s great news for Greaves and our customers of course, but it’s also a real shot in the arm for the city of Glasgow that the world’s top sports brand would choose to partner with its oldest retailer, rather than open their own shop around the corner,” he said.

Phil Benton, VP of Sales for adidas in the UK and Ireland, said the shop-in-shop would help build on the relationship with Greaves.

Anne Murray, inward investment manager at Invest Glasgow, said: “This is terrific news for Greaves and the wider retail sector in Glasgow city centre, and shows the continuing confidence that investors and developers have in Glasgow.”
