Brewer launches cheeky limited edition

Kinky film gives Innis & Gunn a desire for new beer

Shades of GreenScottish brewer Innis & Gunn is getting into the frisky spirit behind the film Fifty Shades of Grey by launching a limited edition named 50 Shades of Green.

The Edinburgh-based company has produced just 200 bottles of the “performance enhancing” pale ale using 50 types of hops which it claims have stimulating properties.

However, drinkers looking for a pick-me-up will find themselves lighter in the pocket. The beer is selling for £30 a bottle.

The drink is said to be infused with aphrodisiacs including ginseng which is said to boost sexual desire, ginkgo biloba, a herb that gets the blood pumping, and nerve stimulant damiana.

Chief executive Dougal sharp said: “We had a lot of fun making this beer, doing things that have never been done before in brewing, much like couples all over Britain will be doing behind closed doors once they’ve seen the film.”

According to its makers, the mellow beer boasts “a full body, intense flavour and seductively spicy aromas offering notes of “grapefruit, lemongrass and” – inevitably – “passion fruit”.

The film is released on 13 February.
