Scottish Sun editor Smith moves to New York

Gill Smith, editor of The Scottish Sun, is moving from Glasgow to New York on secondment as editor of The US Sun.
In a 30-year career, her previous roles include deputy editor, head of content, assistant editor, head of news, and features editor. She was also seconded to the New York Post in the aftermath of 9/11.
Under her editorship, The Scottish Sun has picked up a number of accolades, including Journalism Team of the Year.
Victoria Newton, editor-in-chief of The Sun, said: “Gill brings a wealth of experience at a time when American politics continues to drive the global news agenda, making her perfectly placed to lead our dynamic team and further our successes in the US.
“She leaves The Scottish Sun in brilliant health.”
Ms Smith said: “I’ve had the most amazing 17 years at the Scottish Sun and the last five years as editor have been some of the most rewarding of my career.
“It’s been a huge privilege to lead the Scottish Sun and I’m incredibly proud of all we’ve achieved as a team.
“But, it’s time for a new challenge, and I’m absolutely delighted to be moving to New York to lead the US Sun at a time when the news agenda in America has never been more fertile.
“The opportunity to lead the US team building a new emphasis on video that brings our trustworthy journalism to life and deepens our connection with audiences in America in the Sun’s trademark style is incredibly exciting.
“I am leaving one fantastic team – and joining another – and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
She begins her new role in the New Year.
