Scottish precision engineering company KRG Specialist Engineering is expecting investment from its Japanese owner to extend its capability in green energy sectors.

The acquisition of the Coatbridge company by Torishima Service Solutions Europe in August was seen as opening opportunities for expansion.

KRG, established in the 1970s and previously part of Aberdeenshire-based energy services company Proserv, produces components to industries such as defence and oil and gas. It has been diversifying into renewables in recent years.

Osaka-based Torishma retained all staff at the firm, and investment has been pledged to extend its capability in growth sectors, such as subsea technologies.

Mr Hughes, managing director of KRG, said joining the Torishima Group gave the the firm the backing of a global leader while allowing it to remain firmly rooted in Coatbridge where it began in 1978.

“It means more investment in skills, technology and apprenticeships, and strengthens Scotland’s position in sectors where precision engineering is absolutely vital,” he said.

Torishima designs, manufactures and services pumps and precision engineering solutions, and has operations in Asia, Europe, Middle East, and the Americas.

Steven McColl, managing director of Torishima Service Solutions Europe, said it had been attracted by KRG’s “technical excellence and high-precision capability.”
