Prince Andrew has been stripped of all his titles and will move out of Royal Lodge on the Windsor Estate, Buckingham Palace has stated.

“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” it said in a bombshell statement revealing the extent of the King’s anger over his younger brother’s association with the late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew, who continues to deny the allegations against him, will relocate to premises on the Sandringham Estate privately funded by the King.

The titles lost include Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh as well as “His Royal Highness”. It is also understood that he will lose the honours Order of the Garter and Knight Grand Cross of the Victorian Order.

His daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, will retain their titles as they are the daughters of the son of a Sovereign.

The statement from the Palace, issued just after 7pm, read: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.

“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.

“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.

It is understood that the government was consulted about the decision and supported it.

Andrew remains a Counsellor of State, a member of the royal family able to deputise for the King, although a 2022 amendment stipulated that a non-working member of the royal family would not be allowed to act in the role.

It emerged this week that Andrew had paid only a “peppercorn” rent on his 30-bedroom grace-and-favour mansion on the Windsor Estate for two decades.

It was also reported that Andrew had hosted Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and Harvey Weinstein at Royal Lodge months after an arrest warrant had been issued for Epstein for sexually assaulting a minor.
