Jobs at risk
Sky invests in Livingston but closes three sites

Television and telecoms group Sky has said 2,000 call centre jobs may be cut as it switches more customer services online.
The company is making a multi-million investment in its Livingston site, but its operations in Dunfermline and Newcastle will be affected, while three of its 10 UK sites will close. Up to 300 jobs are at risk at the Dunfermline facility.
It said the decision was a result of changing consumer preferences and declining call volumes.
The centres closing – Stockport, Sheffield and Leeds Central – account for 7% of its total workforce and are subject to consultation.
The company, which is owned by Comcast, receives around 25 million calls a year from customers across Europe each year and it expects that figure to decrease by a third in the next few years.
Customers now prefer online chat and emails, and a 24/7 service.
A Sky spokesman said: “This is about building a future-ready Sky that continues to put our customers and their needs first.”
In January, Sky said it was planning to cut 1,000 jobs in the UK as it moved towards more internet-based services.
