CEO departing
Shiels calls time on 36 years at Capital Credit Union

Marlene Shiels is retiring as chief executive of Capital Credit Union, bringing the curtain down on a 36-year career at the company.
She spent nine years as a director, including a spell as chair of the board, before joining the staff team.
Her first role was as head of business development, and then, for 25 years, she was at the helm as CEO.
Ms Shiels has been a key driver of change and innovation in the sector, not only in relation to the success of CCU, but also in the UK sector, holding positions on the boards of the Association of British Union Ltd (ABCULO) and the World Council of Credit Unions.
One of the highlights of her career was being an adviser on financial inclusion to the current Queen Camilla for 10 years.
She was awarded an OBE in 2016 by the late Queen Elizabeth for her service to financial services and financial inclusion, acknowleging her passion for supporting people from all walks of life, but particularly those with fewer financial choices.
Samantha Homer will assume the role of interim CEO of Capital Credit Union as the board begins the formal process of appointing a permanent successor.
Ms Homer commented: “Marlene leaves Capital Credit Union in an exceptionally strong position, with membership exceeding 31,000 and sustained monthly lending surpassing £1 million for nine of the past twelve months.
“With this solid foundation, Capital Credit Union is well-positioned for long-term growth, enabling us to expand our reach and further enhance the financial well-being of our members for years to come”.
