Joy Lewis: a big day

AAI EmployAbility (AAI), the social enterprise set up by Joy Lewis, is to become part of Changing the Chemistry (CtC), a charity focused on boardroom development.

Ms Lewis said she had been planning an exit from the Edinburgh-based business she set up 15 years ago and was delighted to have found a partner that will continue to develop her work on diversity and inclusion.

In a statement, CtFC said: “AAI’s resources, comprising knowledge, training materials, a wide-reaching network and client contacts, will complement its existing programmes designed to support individuals pursuing board positions and organisations working to improve board diversity.”

Ms Lewis, chief exective of AAI , said: “I am so pleased that CtC shares our commitment to diversity and inclusion and will continue this journey. This isn’t the end for AAI; it’s the beginning of a new chapter, where our legacy will flourish within a like-minded community.

“I want to sincerely thank the many businesses, organisations, the Scottish Government, past employees, contractors, and both current and past board members for their invaluable support.

“I look forward to working with CtC to ensure a seamless transition and am confident that AAI’s mission is in the best possible hands. I am excited to see our shared vision continue to drive change.”

In a social media post, she added: “It’s a big day for me and AAI. I have been talking about an exit plan for years and have now found a safe pair of hands for my precious cargo – the phenomenal charity with the name I wish I’d thought of – Changing the Chemistry (CtC).

“CtC will take over our amazing legacy, assets and resources, including our talented coaches. They want to preserve and build on them. This makes me very happy. I’ll be working with CtC for the foreseeable future to ensure a smooth transition and it will be business as normal for all our clients.”

Tania Watson, chair of CtC, said: “We are honoured to take up the baton from Joy and look forward to building on the legacy of AAI.

“These excellent resources will help us continue to deliver high quality programmes and services for our members and partner organisations and in doing so, support and advocate for all groups who are currently under-represented on boards as well as further diversifying our membership.

“CtC is excited to be embarking on this journey, and a team from AAI and CtC will jointly work together on a structured timeline to ensure a smooth and collaborative transition.”
