US firm wins approval for St Andrews golf course

Feddinch Mains has been identified as a golf site for many years

An American company has secured permission to build a golf course, hotel and restaurant, near St Andrews.

Alvarez & Marsal Golf applied to turn the Feddinch Mains site into a mini resort with an 18-hole course, a short ‘par-3’ course, practice range, clubhouse, golfer’s hotel, restaurant, cottage facilities, a greenkeepers service yard, a half-way house with food and drinks, and other facilities.

The Feddinch Mains site has been earmarked as a golf course destination for over two decades. Various developers have attempted to develop the land, but none has been fully implemented.

Global professional services company Alvarez & Marsal Golf submitted three separate planning applications as part of its masterplan – all of which were approved by councillors on North East Fife planning committee.

A separate planning and listed building consent application to turn the B-listed farmhouse on the site into usable mixed-use events space was also approved.

Tyler J Kirsch, managing director of Alvarez and Marsal Golf, said: “Following extensive consultation with Fife Council, the local community and other key stakeholders, this approval is a major milestone in regenerating a site that has remained undeveloped for 20 years.

“We are confident our project will bring lasting benefits to the local community, and we remain committed to ongoing engagement as it progresses.”
