Public to view 1,000 homes Maybury Quarter plan

A developer is inviting the public to view its revised plans to transform a former packaging factory into a housing, hotel and retail development in the west of Edinburgh.
Summix Capital wants to turn the Saica site close to the Gogarburn roundabout and Edinburgh Gateway rail station into a new community called the Maybury Quarter.
The 15.5-acre plot on Turnhouse Road is designed for 1,000 homes, a hotel, 30,000 sq ft of retail space and new green spaces.
The housing proposed will include affordable housing, addressing the city’s well-publicised housing emergency, and including the provision of accessible family homes and Build to Rent (BTR) accommodation.
A public consultation session will be held on Wednesday 11 September at the nearby Marriott hotle between 2pm and 7pm.

Summix Capital expects to submit a planning application before the end of this year.
Stuart Black, development director, said: ““The public comments received so far, along with other stakeholder feedback received, have proved invaluable in shaping this development, and we would like to thank all those who have taken the time to input into this process to date.
“Our exciting proposals provide a unique opportunity to redevelop one of the last major pieces of brownfield land in the city into a brand new, sustainable mixed-use community.”
Saica, a Spain-based paper and cardboard company, has relocated to a purpose-built facility at Deans Road in Livingston.
Summix has allowed a festival organiser to use the vacant factory to be turned into a temporary arts and music venue next Spring.
