70 jobs created
Alvance drops wheel plan for recycling plant

The facility will see more jobs
A £94 million investment in an aluminium recycling and casting facility in the Highlands will create 70 jobs and safeguard 200.
Alvance Aluminium, a subsidiary of industrial tycoon Sanjeev Gupta’s GFG Alliance, said it will use recycled metal to double aluminium production in Lochaber to 80,000 tonnes a year.
The company, which operates the UK’s only aluminium smelter, had been planning to build an alloy wheels factory at the site. However, the downturn in car manufacturing has led to a change of plan.
Subject to approval from Highland Council, Alvance is aiming to start development works in 2021, with a target to be fully operational by 2024.6.
Mr Gupta, executive chairman of the GFG Alliance, said: “The transformation plan we’re announcing today underlines our commitment to investing in Scotland and our belief in the bright future of green aluminium.”
