Tax office to be replaced by city’s tallest building
Portcullis House will be demolished
Watkin Jones Group, a developer and manager of residential for rent, has revealed that its proposed building on the site of the former HMRC building in central Glasgow will be the tallest in the city.
The company intends to demolish Portcullis House in India Street which it bought from Mapeley Investment Group in August.
It will be replaced by a build-to-rent (BTR) and co-living development of up to 30 storeys, comprising about 825 homes.
The proposals will also include amenity and ancillary facilities, with the potential for retail, café and co-working space at street level.
The developer will submit a planning application for the development, which skirts the M8 underpass, following a minimum 12-week consultation period.
Work is due to complete in 2024 and will form part of the regeneration of the west end of the city centre.
