Murrayfield is to host the British and Irish Lions for the first time next summer when Japan visit the Capital.
The match on Saturday, 26 June will be only the third time the Lions have played on home turf and is a warm-up for their three-Test tour of South Africa.
Days later Warren Gatland’s men fly out, the opening game of the tour kicking off on 3 July against the Stormers.
The first Test against the Springboks is in Johannesburg on 24 July, with the second Test against the world champions coming a week later in Cape Town before Johannesburg hosts the third and final meeting on 7 August.
Speaking of the friendly against Japan, head coach Gatland said: “They are a talented side who play high-tempo rugby, so it’ll be a good challenge for us.
“It’s a chance for the matchday squad to put hands up for Test selection.”
The warm-up is scheduled for the same day as the 2021 Premiership Rugby final, which rules out any of the finalists.
