StayCity to open its Edinburgh hotel next month
The hotel is part of a mixed use development near the castle
Aparthotel operator Staycity Group’s Wilde Aparthotel in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket area will open on 2 December following a year of rapid expansion for the group around Europe.
New outlets in Paris and Venice follow site acquisitions in Berlin, Dublin, Frankfurt, London and York.
The company has opened at the former Checkpoint Charlie border crossing between east and west Berlin and is Staycity’s first property in Germany.
In Edinburgh it will occupy a prime position at the foot of Edinburgh Castle in King’s Stables Road. The hotel is on the site of long-derelict municipal workshops and forms part of a mix of residential and commercial units as well as student accommodation.
Staycity group CEO and co-founder Tom Walsh, said: “One of the key prerequisites for Wilde is that they’re central to the heart of the city. Both the Berlin and Edinburgh properties are in stunning locations with the best each city has to offer on their doorstep. It’s exciting to see the Wilde brand taking shape as we add to the estate.”
Edinburgh, Grassmarket offers 128 studio, one-bed and two-bed apartments as well as a gym, guest lounge and Staycafé.
Apartments offer a home-style decor
There is a lounge area, 24-hour reception and the option of self check-in.
Wilde is Staycity’s premium concept inspired by the wit and irreverence of Irish playwright and poet Oscar Wilde.
Staycity Group reported a 2.4% hike in like-for-like sales in the first half of 2019, on the back of a rise in occupancy and average daily rates. Anticipated turnover for 2019 is €81m, up 18% on 2018.
