Self-catering expansion

Handpicked city pair add Highlands lodge to portfolio

Country life: Tanja Hughes and Judith Thurlow moved north to set up their business

Handpicked Lodges has acquired another property, the newly refurbished Caberfeidh lodge in the village of Kincraig, which takes the young firm’s portfolio of properties to 18.

The original target was to take on four lodges within a trading year, but just 10 months in and Handpicked Lodges has taken on its sixth.

Founded by Tanja Hughes and Judith Thurlow in 2016, the self-catering property management company, which manages luxury lodges across Strathspey, has expanded rapidly.

The business now has two permanent members of staff and is creating operational jobs across the Cairngorms region .

They were introduced by a mutual friend and by combining their backgrounds in property management and customer service training they have sought to fill what they perceive as a gap in the market.

Neither is a Cairngorm native – both having relocated to the National Park from the city with their partners; Tanja from London in 2010 and Judith from Edinburgh in 2011.
