Newcomer Gotham Hotels reveals plans for Glasgow city site

Gotham plans city 57 rooms

Hotel Gotham’s plan to open in Glasgow will add a further 57 rooms in the city’s historic Blythswood Square.

The hotel will be located at numbers 5-7, a corner site close to other hotels in the neighbourhood – the Kimpton, Malmaison and Dakota.

The Hotel Gotham brand was launched in 2015 in Manchester, set in a listed Lutyen’s masterpiece.

Gotham first indicated an interest in Glasgow last year and hopes to have the hotel open in 2021. It is planning others in Bath, Birmingham, Brighton and London.

Manchester is operated by Bespoke Hotels under a 30-year lease agreement.

Chairman of Bespoke Hotels, Robin Sheppard, said: “We are thrilled to have secured this fantastic site in the heart of Glasgow city centre.

“We believe Gotham is a perfect fit for both Glasgow and Blythswood Square, not solely in terms of the architectural grandeur and convenience of its location, but the abundant character and feistiness of the city.”

The hotel will be developed in partnership with construction company Marshall CDP.

Simon Marshall, group managing director at Marshall CDP, added: “The site at Blythswood Square is architecturally stunning and very much in keeping with the sense of grandeur that the Hotel Gotham brand evokes.

“We have been keen to build on the success of Gotham in Manchester, and eager to further cement our relationship with Bespoke Hotels.”
