Emslie installed as chairman of Edinburgh tourism group
Hospitality leader and former television executive Donald Emslie is taking over as chairman of the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group.
Mr Emslie, currently chairman of Thorpe Hall Leisure and Castle Hotel Management Consultants, will succeed Robin Worsnop who steps down after nine years.
ETAG, the umbrella organisation for the Edinburgh tourism sector, brings together and supporting the work of key stakeholders, business associations and businesses.
Mr Emslie began his working life as a teacher, later switching to sales and marketing. After joining STV in the mid-1980s, he rose rapidly through the ranks of Scottish Television, leading the integration of Grampian TV and STV and becoming chief executive of SMG Television from 1999 until 2007. This included responsibility for SMG Television, Virgin Radio, Pearl & Dean and Primesight. During this time he was also the chairman of GMTV (2002 – 2004) and the ITV Network (2000 – 2004). He also spent a turbulent time as chairman of Edinburgh Zoo.
