Soaring whisky demand lifts profits at Whyte & Mackay
Soaring demand for Scotch whisky pushed up annual profits at Whyte & Mackay by 34%.
The owner of Jura distillery saw pre-tax profit rise from £11.5 million in 2018 to £17.3m last year on an 11% rise in turnover to £159.2m.
The value of maturing whisky stock on the balance sheet rose from £201m to more than £230m.
Glasgow-based Whyte & Mackay has been owned by Emperador Group, a Philippines-based rum and brandy producer, since 2014 and employs 500 people.
