Green drinks plan
Skwishee urges customers to ditch plastic in UK-wide campaign
Skwishee is inviting customers to be imaginative
A Scottish drinks producer is taking an unusual step to encourage its customers to ditch plastic-based cups.
Fife-based Skwishee wants them to bring any receptacle from ice buckets to plant pots to its stores this weekend.
The vessels should be of any size below 25cm in diameter.
Skwishee has grown to 100 outlets from Shetland to the Euro Tunnel and believes its “Bring Your Own Cup Day” on Saturday and Sunday will provide an environmental dividend by replacing about 150,000 plastic cups.
Spokesman, Raza Rehman, said: “This is the first event of its kind in the UK and the response from our customers and stockists has been tremendous.
“Our fans have been coming up with imaginative and creative ideas on social media.
“We have been perfecting the Skwishee formula for around two years ago but only began rolling it out nationwide in January. Since then our growth has been remarkable, with new outlets opening every week.
“We really don’t mind how big a cup is filled, it could be 10 litres or even 20. The bigger the better.
“This is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our loyal and growing fan base.”
