Harkins in running for women of influence honour

Susan Harkins: ‘wonderful recognition’

In recognition of her outstanding work helping start-ups and growth businesses across all sectors and sizes in the city for over 20 years, Susan Harkins, Head of Business Gateway Edinburgh, has been shortlisted for the ‘Women of Influence’ Award at the Scottish Women’s Awards 2019.

Now in its 3rd year, the Awards, being held at a special ceremony in Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Wednesday 28th August 2019, celebrate female entrepreneurs, professionals, businesses, civil servants and sports stars for their success and contribution to society.

Susan began her career over 20 years ago, after graduating with an MBA at Edinburgh University Management School, as a project manager of various local enterprise and European projects including the Craigmillar Business Incubator, Edinburgh Wide Incubator Project, Youth Enterprise Project and Community Employability.

She joined Business Gateway 15 years ago and specialises in Entrepreneurship, SME Business Support, Women in Business & Social Enterprise.  Susan’s accolades include founding the successful Gateway to Investment Programme, which helps businesses to get investment-ready. 

She is also a member of Scottish Government Women in Business Action Group and the Economic Development Association.

Susan said: “I am absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for this fantastic Women of Influence Award and really looking forward to celebrating the achievements of everyone who has been shortlisted at the Awards ceremony at the end of the month.

“To be recognised for something I’m incredibly passionate about and really enjoy is wonderful, and very unexpected. The entrepreneurs I work with are truly inspirational and it’s always an honour to be part of their journey and help in any way I can, whether it’s one-to-one support, funding advice, helping them to build their network or business planning.”
