Kieran Tierney will leave Celtic to join Arsenal in a record transfer deal for a Scottish footballer.
The two clubs finally agreed a £25million deal for the 22-year-old full back who will travel to the Emirates stadium in north London to discuss terms and undergo a medical ahead of the English transfer window closing.
Celtic will also get sell-on clause in the deal which tops the previous Scottish record sale of nearly £20m for French player Moussa Dembele.
Tierney sat out Celtic’s 1-1 draw with CFR Cluj in Romania last night as he recovers from a hernia operation.
Celtic coach Neil Lennon hopes he will be given a large chunk of the proceeds to reinvest in his squad.
Speaking earlier, he said: “I don’t know [if a deal has been agreed] but it wouldn’t surprise me. These things tend to take their course. I’ve not had any confirmation but, if he goes, then he goes with everybody’s best wishes. He’s a superb player and will be a big loss to us.
“It shows the work that people have done at the club, whether it be Brendan Rodgers, Ronny Deila or the people at the academy to produce such a fine player. He’s an outstanding young talent and a great kid.”
Celtic are well-placed to reach the Champions League play-offs after their draw in Transylvania. Mario Rondón scored for the hosts just before the half-hour but James Forrest quickly replied to give the Scottish champions a vital away goal.
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers failed with a deadline day move for Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor, according to the Daily Mail, while the Daily Record reports that Rangers are on the brink of signing Manchester City winger Brandon Barker after failing in a last ditch bid to bring Ryan Kent back from Liverpool.
