Garden steps up
Turcan Connell’s first trainee succeeds as chairman
Gillian Crandles with Alexander Garden
Private client law firm Turcan Connell has appointed head of tax and succession Alexander Garden as chairman.
He will take over the role from the firm’s first chairman, Simon Mackintosh, on 1 July and will lead the firm alongside the recently-appointed managing partner Gillian Crandles.
Mr Garden is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, currently chairs its Scottish Taxes Technical Committee and is accredited as a specialist in trust law by the Law Society of Scotland. He joined Turcan Connell as its first trainee weeks after it opened its doors in 1997.
He commented: “In taking over from Simon I have distinguished shoes to fill, but having been with the firm since its inception almost 22 years ago, I am excited about the opportunities.
“In chairing the partnership my aim is to hold to our key values and guide the firm in an empathetic and progressive manner.”
Outgoing chairman Mr Mackintosh, who will continue with the firm as a consultant, said: “Turcan Connell prides itself on consistently developing and retaining talented individuals. Around half our current partners began their journey as trainees of the firm and I warmly welcome as my successor, the person who was our very first trainee over 20 years ago.”
