Tycoon invests £700,000 in Dundee co-working office
Jeremy Dixon: ‘lines between business and leisure time increasingly blur’
Property entrepreneur Jeremy Dixon has revealed plans for a co-working business – Jute & Co – to be housed in the Dundee One office development on the city’s burgeoning waterfront.
It will provide 9,000 sq ft on the top floor of the building neighbouring the V&A museum and is in demand for flexible co-working space which has trebled globally in the last decade to 8% of the office rental market (Savills 2019).
Nearly 70% of younger workers say they would trade other benefits for a better workspace, and 86% say a work-life balance was the most important factor in choosing an employer.
Jute & Co represents a £700,000 investment and will include 1,000 sq ft of outdoor terrace, as well as member events and classes.
Mr Dixon and his team hope Jute & Co will be a relaxing and enjoyable place to work, for all types of businesses. He commented: “As more people become self-employed, workforces become more fluid, and the lines between business and leisure time increasingly blur, flexible leases and joining a shared business community are attractive – as are the effects of great design and a positive experience of work in boosting employee productivity.”
Councillor John Alexander, leader of Dundee City Council added: ‘This is a tremendous addition to the city’s business landscape and will provide first class accommodation for entrepreneurs and businesses alike. I have no doubt that the demand for this type of offering is there.”
