Deanestor secures its biggest-ever education contract

Deanestor - Inverurie Campus

Inverurie Campus: biggest school project

Deanestor, the furniture and fit-out firm, has been awarded a £3 million contract – its largest-ever in the education sector.

The project is for the manufacture and supply of furniture, fittings and equipment for the new £55m Inverurie Community Campus – one of the biggest school construction projects in Scotland.

The contract is Dunfermline-based Deanestor’s third school project in Scotland for principal contractors, Robertson Construction.

Due for completion early in 2020, the project for Aberdeenshire Council is being delivered by community infrastructure company hub North Scotland and will accommodate 1,600 pupils. It will provide a range of amenities for the wider community, including a youth café, community centre, six-lane swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, and other sports facilities. There will be multiple community spaces, creative hubs, dispersed dining areas and learning plazas, as well as state-of-the-art teaching facilities.

Designed by architects Halliday Fraser Munro, the campus will also be home to St Andrews School for children with special educational needs.

Deanestor will furnish and fit out 360 rooms across the campus in 26 weeks, including science, food and design technology departments, specialist SEN facilities, general teaching spaces, sports and changing areas, reception, library and offices. The room layouts will reflect the latest thinking in curriculum delivery and colours will be bright and modern throughout with an interior design scheme that links all internal learning spaces.

Commenting on the project, Iain Loud, senior design manager at Robertson Construction, said, “This is a fast-track project which needs an open and collaborative approach.”

Ramsay McDonald, Managing Director of Deanestor Scotland, said, “Our designers are working closely with the design and construction team to implement the contemporary theme for the multi-purpose spaces and to deliver a really inspirational and innovative environment for learning and teaching.”
