Mixed use development planned
Homes plan for former brewery gap site in Edinburgh
The development would fill a large gap site
Plans for the next phase of regeneration of Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge area include 234 homes for rent and six commercial units on the site of the former Scottish & Newcastle brewery.
Architecture practice 3DReid is teaming up with developer Vastint Hospitality for this second phase of development on the site running alongside the Union Canal. The first phase of offices, a 262-bedroom Moxy hotel and several commercial ground floor units were approved last summer.
The latest proposal includes a public space adjacent to the Leamington Lift Bridge.
In a submission to the council, the architects say: “The proposed development site at Fountainbridge has been vacant since 2005.
“The mixed use proposals comprise a Moxy hotel, grade A office, BTR [buy to rent] residential, small units for business / retail / social enterprise and public realm.
“The masterplan of pedestrian routes and green spaces will re-connect Fountainbridge to the Union Canal.”
