New plan to tackle construction skills crisis

An initiative has been launched to tackle a critical shortage of innovative skills in the construction industry.
Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC) and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) have formed a partnership to ensure the workforce has the right skills for now and the future.
Skills shortages are a particular concern to the industry with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) reporting last year that the industry will need to find 157,000 new recruits by 2021 in order to keep up with demand.
One of the key ways in which the industry and the UK government are attempting to tackle this is through the recruitment of apprentices.
The new partnership will help identify and deliver the future skills and training the construction industry needs to help it innovate more, resulting in improved productivity across the sector.
