300 bed building planned
12-storey four star hotel planned for Glasgow gap site
Hotel plan: the proposal will fill a gap site
A 300-bedroom hotel is proposed for central Glasgow that would boost the city’s shortage of visitor accommodation.
Consarc Design Group has lodged an application with the city council on behalf of ES Renfield fora 12-storey building – understood to be a four-star Maldron Hotel – on a vacant site opposite the Pavilion Theatre in Renfield Street.
CDG said the comprehensive redevelopment aims to provide a scheme of architectural quality which will contribute positively to the existing and emerging townscape as well as an opportunity for future development on the remainder of the site.
The site, neighbouring The Herald and Times building, lies just outside the Glasgow Central Conservation area. It has been empty since 2007 when STV studios relocated to a purpose-built head office at Pacific Quay on the other side of the Clyde.
