Olympia buyers given a taste of Scotland

Speciality Food Fair Olympia

Taking a stand: 19 firms are exhibiting their wares

Scotland’s food and drink producers will have the opportunity to meet buyers and other influential figures at a key event in London.

Nineteen firms have made the trip south to attend the Speciality & Fine Food Fair held from today until Tuesday at Olympia. More than 9,000 buyers from retail, catering and wholesale are expected to attend.

Scottish food and drink accounts for 5-10% of speciality sales in London and the South East and this figure continues to grow.

More than half (52%) of those who live in London have said that within a retail setting food and drink products labelled as Scottish are perceived to be of better quality, according to a Scotland Food & Drink, Survation survey last November.

When buying items to eat and drink out of the home, Kantar TNS research in May found that seven in 10 Londoners said they would be more likely to buy a product if they knew it was made in Scotland.

Lucy Husband, UK market development director at trade body Scotland Food & Drink, said: “Trade exhibitions are an important part of companies’ sales strategy and presenting under the Scotland, a Land of Food and Drink pavilion is highly valued by our exhibitors.

“The strong regional presence enables companies to showcase their products and businesses to a wide range of UK and international buyers from a number of speciality sectors in one place.

“I am confident that the key decision makers will be impressed by what our exhibitors have to offer, and we look forward to a busy show.”

The event takes place during Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight.
