Seniors roles at lobby group
Jamieson and Forsyth take chairs at IoD
The Institute of Directors Scotland has appointed two branch chairmen. Craig Jamieson, director at Barclays Wealth Management, for the Glasgow branch, and Donald Forsyth, partner at Saffery Champness, who takes on the role in the Highlands and Islands.
Mr Jamieson is keen to use his chairmanship to draw from talent pools in Glasgow and the West, especially those who face challenges moving into the world of work from unusual circumstances.
“It’s important that we look at how we can access pockets of talent that may slip through the net,” he said.
“I spent years in the forces, and in my experience, those serving in the forces and their partners spend a lot of time moving around the world, taking on all manner of roles and gaining a multitude of skills.
“We need to be more innovative in our approach to engaging with those types of individuals, helping them in to the permanent world of work.
“I also believe we should work more closely with higher and further education establishments, ensuring businesses are better engaged with educational establishments, clearly articulating what they need from the next generations workforce, so that educators can provide the training to meet those criteria.”
Mr Forsyth said: “I’ll be focusing on two main aims. First, I want to collaborate, not compete, with existing membership bodies such as the chambers of commerce in the north.
“Secondly, I want to make The IoD here inclusive, with events and opportunities for all. The north of Scotland already has a huge variety of businesses across several sectors: food and drink, hospitality and tourism, oil supply chain and professional services all thrive in the area.
“The IoD has access to influential speakers from across these various sectors in Scotland, so I want to bring them to the more remote locations, building on existing networks to include a wide pool of businesses across our expansive geography.”
David Watt, executive Director of IoD Scotland said: “Craig and Donald are excellent leaders, who have proven business successes and excellent networks across their respective parts of Scotland.”
