Thousands gather to usher in the new year

Revellers from the around the world joined the New Year celebrations, with Scotland’s biggest street party taking place in Edinburgh which was spared warnings of wind and rain from Storm Dylan.
An estimated 75,000 turned out for the event along Princes Street. Rag’n’Bone Man headlined the Concert in the Gardens, with Declan McKenna and Nina Nesbitt as support.
The Human League, Sacred Paws, Treacherous Orchestra and Huey Morgan performed on other street stages.
The midnight fireworks from the Castle lasted 10 minutes, which was longer than usual, heralding the start of 2018.
Stirling Castle was also lit up by a spectacular firework display while local businessman ensured 1,500 people could enjoy the traditional torchlight procession in Peebles.
