Lindsays and Aitken Nairn WS unveil merger

Lindsays and Aitken Nairn WS have merged in the latest in a recent flurry of tie-ups in the legal sector.

The combined business, to be known as Lindsays, will come into effect on 22 January. 

Aitken Nairn WS partners Kenneth Stanley and Morag Yellowlees, along with 15 members of staff, will relocate to Lindsays’ offices in Caledonian Exchange.

Alasdair Cummings, managing partner at Lindsays, said: “Aitken Nairn WS has an excellent reputation.

“We look forward to welcoming Morag, Kenneth and their colleagues to our full service team.” 

Kenneth Stanley, partner at Aitken Nairn WS, said: “This is an exciting time for us. This merger with such a highly-regarded law firm is a great cultural fit.” 

Ms Yellowlees, partner at Aitken Nairn WS, added: “We look forward to bringing further benefits to our clients through access to additional areas of expertise.”

In May 2015 Lindsays acquired RSB Macdonald.

The latest deal follows a number of mergers this year:

February 1: Edinburgh law firm Gibson Kerr announced a merger with Grange Solicitors & Estate Agents.

March 3: Glasgow firm Mitchells Roberton acquired Adie Hunter, also based in the city

March 24: Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie and BMK Wilson agreed to merge

June 1: Addleshaw Goddard completed its acquisition of HBJ Gateley

July 21: Dentons acquired Maclay Murray & Spens

Oct 31: Two of Scotland’s oldest law firms, Glasgow-based Mitchells Roberton and Kerr Barrie announced a merger

November 1: Allan McDougall Solicitors and McQueen Legal merged practices.

November 15: Watermans Legal acquired the Edinburgh practice Wright & Co
