UK economy grew by 0.4% in last quarter, says think tank (click for more)

The UK economy grew by an estimated 0.4% over the previous three months, says the National Institute of Economic and Social Research.

If confirmed this would push growth slightly above the April to  June quarter (0.3%).

Though stuck in low gear the economy is probably not weak enough to dissuade the Bank of England from raising interest rates next month.

But Amit Kara, NIESR’s head of UK macroeconomic forecasting, said: “Activity has slowed since last year…At a time when real GDP growth in other major economies such as the Euro Area and the USA has strengthened.”
