A venue for  ‘wine lovers’ was unveiled in Edinburgh last night as the latest hospitality offering prepared to open its doors.

Sep Marini, owner of the Tony Macaroni chain, has teamed up with Michele Zonin, vice-president of the Italian wine producing Zonin family, to launch The Wine House Hotel 1821.

They have poured £500,000 into the venture in Picardy Place and hope to attract a clientele of corporate and wedding customers.

It includes four bedrooms, a cocktail bar and a ‘wine library’ where customers can taste and learn about wines from an on-site sommelier.

“We decided to create a place for wine lovers,” explained Mr Zonin who has supplied the Marini business for some years. “We believe Scottish people are getting more interested in wine.”

Most of the wines are from the family’s estates in Italy, the US and Chile.

Mr Marini said there are also plans for an 1821 bar in East Kilbride.
