Big return for VC firm sale boost for SEP

Scottish Equity Partners is believed to have made another multi-million pound return after exiting a fashion company. was launched 30 years ago by a husband and wife who have sold a majority stake in the business for £800m.

SEP, headed by managing partner Calum Paterson (pictured),  invested in the company five years ago and has sold part of its holding to a group of funds managed by Apax Partners.

Along with founders Tom and Ruth Chapman, SEP will retain a minority stake in the business along with Highland Europe, another venture capital company.

The company, which began in a south London shop, is today a global luxury shopping destination and employs more than 500 people. 

The Chapmans are said to own a 67% stake in the business.
