Leonardo Hotels has increased its presence in Scotland by acquiring five establishments from Portland Hotels, adding 536 bedrooms to its portfolio.

It will give the Germany-based group  445 rooms in Edinburgh alone and follows the opening of the Leonardo Royal in Haymarket.

The newly-acquired portfolio will take the group to 80 hotels, including seven in the UK with 1,048 bedrooms.

The additions to the group are The Edinburgh City Hotel, The Edinburgh Capital, The Glasgow Pond Hotel, The Huntingtower Hotel in Perth and the The Speedbird Inn at Aberdeen Airport.

Daniel Roger, managing director of Leonardo Hotels Europe, said: “When we entered the market in the UK two years ago, we made it our goal to further expand our portfolio and strengthen the name recognition of the Leonardo Hotels brand.  “The purchase of Portland Hotels underscores this.”

Leonardo is the European division of Fattal Hotels Group which was founded in Israel.
