Vue Entertainment is opening a multiplex cinema on the site of the former BHS store in Glasgow’s St Enoch Centre.

The multi-million pound nine screen venue will open in 2019.

Andrew Warren, Real Estate Team Partner with Morisons, which worked with legal firm Irwin Mitchell to secure the deal, said:  “It is anticipated it will provide the catalyst for further food outlet openings attracted by the increased footfall generated by the cinema.”

It is the ninth Vue cinema in Scotland and complements one at Glasgow Fort.

Mr Warren said: “The leisure industry continues to be buoyant for the commercial property sector and following the election, this is a further indicator that hopefully we can look forward to a more sustained settled period with less business uncertainty.”

Vue St EnochThe new cinema forms part of a phased redevelopment programme currently under way by St Enoch’s landlords, Blackstone and its operating partner, Sovereign Centros.

It will include a reconfiguration of the existing mall and the development of an additional restaurant area.

Anne Ledgerwood, General Manager of St. Enoch Centre, said: “Retail has changed considerably in recent years and people are increasingly seeking to incorporate eating and entertainment into their shopping experience.

The development will also help to create a more connected city centre by reclaiming outdoor space for pedestrians as well as strengthening the connection with Buchanan Street and improving links to the waterfront.”
